Please read the essential information relating to your chosen course below. This includes the equipment you will need for your studies, when you will be able to enrol as well as information about your induction to the college.

To ensure the safety of our staff and students and to manage the number of people on campus in a Covid-safe manner during this busy period, it is our intention to enrol as many students as possible online. You can find out if you’re eligible for online enrolment on our How to Enrol page.
If you are eligible to complete your enrolment online, you will receive a unique username and password via letter and email. This will allow you to sign in to access your online enrolment dashboard.
Online enrolment for this programme opens on the following dates:

The enrolment process will be complete once you have attended Bishop Burton for your induction session, which will take place week commencing:

Please bring your own device if you have one.
At induction, students will receive their ID badge, a copy of their Learner Agreement and details about how to access their college email account, including their username and password (which they can change if they wish at a later date).
Following enrolment on to your programme you will gain access to our Virtual Learning Environment and will be directed to relevant reading materials to support your studies. Our Learning Resource Centre contains reference copies of all essential reading list material.

You will undertake a number of interesting and relevant trips and visits as part of your equine degree programme. These include a range of equine enterprises, veterinary centres and specialist conferences.
Some visits may be free, but others will incur a charge varying with the nature of the visit and the distance travelled. Such charges will be kept to a reasonable rate, and may include a contribution payment from £5 upwards to cover part of the cost.
Before you begin your programme, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared with the right equipment. Many of our courses need specialist health and safety clothing, but we’ve made it simple - some of your essentials and college branded clothing can be bought from our online shop.
For your course, you will need:
A tablet, smartphone, laptop or stationery to take notes in lectures and seminars
USB stick and / or portable hard drive
College-branded white laboratory coat
Scientific calculator
Riding hat to current (PAS015 with BSI kitemark) standard in a dark plain colour or silk.
Plain, dark coloured trousers or breeches or jodhpurs not jeans
Gloves for horse handling
Yard boots or wellington boots (NB: Boots are not permitted within the classroom, so a change of footwear is advisable)

Body protector (BETA Level Three 2009). Please note, we do not permit Air Jackets in any day to day sessions
Long riding boots or short boots with gaiters
Schooling / jumping whip
Long sleeved base layer or thin top
Soft peaked hat or preferable jockey skull hat and silk to the standards listed above.
Please note, students will be offered free tuition to prepare for BHS examinations, but will be required to pay the exam fee.
