BA Design (Top Up)


To ensure the safety of our staff and students and to manage the number of people on campus in a Covid-safe manner during this busy period, it is our intention to enrol as many students as possible online. You can find out if you’re eligible for online enrolment on our How to Enrol page.

If you are eligible to complete your enrolment online, you will receive a unique username and password via letter and email. This will allow you to sign in to access your online enrolment dashboard.

If you do not receive this information by Monday 10th August, please contact the college on 01964 553000.

Online enrolment for this programme opens on 13th August 2020.

The enrolment process will be complete once you have attended Bishop Burton for your induction session, which will take place on Friday 18th September, 9.15am - 4pm.

Please bring your own device if you have one.

At induction, students will receive their ID badge, a copy of their Learner Agreement and details about how to access their college email account, including their username and password (which they can change if they wish at a later date).

Trips and Visits - You be expected to enrich your learning by undertaking independent visits to venues relevant to your creative research project. This could include galleries, museums, exhibition and a range of potential employers.

Before you begin your course, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared with the right equipment.

For your course, you will need:

  • A tablet, laptop or stationery to take notes in lectures and seminars
  • You may wish to use your own laptop to work on your designs both at college and in your own time
  • Sketch books and portfolios
  • Art materials – technical pens (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7), technical pencil, pencil crayons, watercolour, paint brushes, pro-markers, sketching pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, circle template etc.
  • Paper - A2, A3, A4, to include tracing paper, layout paper, cartridge paper, model making card, foam board etc. dependent upon the design project
  • Printing - you will also need to invest in printing your final work on presentation quality paper. This is available at Bishop Burton College Reprographics or from independent printers, Blurb, Lulu, Vistaprint, Moo etc., - prices will vary according to size
  • Glue – Pritt stick, UHU, spray mount adhesive, double sided sticky tape, masking tape and a hot glue gun.
  • Cutting mat
  • Steel ruler
  • Scissors
  • Scale ruler
  • Adjustable set square
  • Microsoft Office – free to all students upon enrolment
  • Adobe Creative Cloud – students can get an introductory offer on this package with a saving of 65% off the first year’s contract
  • Autodesk AutoCAD – student can download the latest version for free for three years
  • SketchUp - free download available to students
  • USB stick and / or portable hard drive
  • A digital camera or mobile phone.
